The Goal of Reference and Information Services Unit (RISU)

The mission of reference services is to teach students, staff and faculty how to find information by educating them on the use of the library catalog and proprietary databases.  Reference services will strive to meet, and also to anticipate, user requests. The reference staff encourages user’s awareness of information resources to fulfill individual information needs.

We provide Electronic reference, e-reference, and Internet-based question, answer services and connect users with experts in the information sources in a variety of subject areas through web forms and/or e-mail. We also cover support via direct contact with reference librarians through e-mail and telephone. The RISU provides reference assistance to patrons in research, skills to database usage, ethical use of resources and serves as a link between the patrons and the resources.
